QUICKCARE for REDTAIL BOAS
Check out our Snake Pro PackDay temps- 84-92 degrees F
Night temps- 78-84 degrees F
Setup- We keep baby boas in shoebox size cages, and adults in Vision 4 ft cages. Newspaper works well for a substrate, as does Cypress Mulch, as does precut corrugated flute (“cardboard”). Have at least one secure, tight, low hide spot, preferably more, and a good sized water dish available at all times. We use heat tape for babies, and either heat tape or Helix radiant heat panels for adults, creating a hot spot on one side of the cage.
Daily care- Pretty simple daily care, low maintenance, check individual animal and spot clean as necessary.
Feeding- Feed one appropriately sized rodent once a week. Thawed prey items are usually fine, these are typically enthusiastic feeders. The prey item should be the same diameter as the largest girth of the snake. For baby boas, we start with small adult mice, moving on to rats as the animals grow.
Notes- Boas are simple snakes to keep, but not all boas are necessarily beginner animals. Many redtails can approach 10 ft. as adults, and many babies can be a bit nippy during acclimation. Choose wisely, and be prepared for a full size animal.
