QUICKCARE for BALL PYTHONS
Check out our Snake Pro Pack
Day temps- 84-92 degrees F
Night temps- 78-84 degrees F
Setup- We keep baby balls in shoebox size cages, and adults in large rubbermaids in a rack system, heated with heat tape. Vision 3 and 4 fts. will also work well for adults. Cypress Mulch, Aspen or newspaper works well for a substrate. Have at least one secure, tight, low hide spot, preferably more, and a good sized water dish available at all times. The heat tape creates a hot spot on one side of the cage, with a temperature gradient towards the far side.
Daily care- Pretty simple daily care, low maintenance, check individual animal and spot clean as necessary.
Feeding- Feed one appropriately sized rodent once a week. Hatchling Balls typically start well on small adult mice, but some babies may prefer rat pups. Regardless, the prey item should be the same diameter as the largest girth of the snake. Pinkie mice are for baby corn snakes, baby balls eat a small adult mouse for a first meal. When in doubt, take a step UP in size, Balls are greedy feeders.
Notes- Balls are simple snakes to keep, and make an excellent beginner choice. They reach only 3-4 ft. as adults (typically) and are usually very docile. They are shy and reclusive as babies, so hide spots, and minimal amount of handling, are very important aspects of proper acclimation.
